I have lived in Manchester since 2001 and since then have fallen in love with the city. There is a lot to love from music to sport to theatre but when you scratch the surface, there is far more about the city that makes you sit up and take notice. It is a city that has a remarkable ability to be at the forefront of social reform. Think Peterloo. Think the striking mill workers for the abolition of slavery even though it meant economic disaster for them. Think Emmeline Pankhurst, Alan Turing and Brian Cox.
In my guise as writer for Northern Soul, I love uncovering new and old jewels in Manchester’s crown and one of these was covering the new LGBT Retirement Scheme that Manchester is currently embarking on. The first of it’s kind and surely a flagship for how elderly care will look when myself and my generation get to the point of needing it.
