So this week’s Rose and Thorn has to be a bit patriotic after the weekend we’ve had.
No prize’s for guessing that the rose is the Royal Wedding. In the seemingly endless build up to it I was determined that I wasn’t bothered and would watch the news but the sun was out and I was like a moth to the flame and ended up watching the whole thing which surprisingly I really enjoyed. Meghan looked stunning, Harry looked happy and the rest of the Royal Family were the most relaxed and close to normal as I’ve ever seen them. Maybe it was the Pastor with no concept of time or maybe it was strange mix of Hollywood and Royalty but they all seemed to be actually having a good time which we haven’t seen since It’s A Royal Knockout and look how well that went. If this is what Meghan is going to bring to the monarchy then welcome to the family.
The thorn is the forthcoming anniversary of the Manchester arena bomb. I’ve lived in Manchester since 2001 and nothing has been as shocking as that atrocity. It’s hard to believe that it is a year since those young people lost their lives doing something they loved to do. My heart goes out to all the family and friends of those killed or injured in the blast.
